Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, the wife of renowned gospel DJ Karumba Ngatia, popularly known as DJ Krowbar, has died.

In a family statement confirming her passing, Joyce was reported to have died in the early hours of Monday, January 26, 2026, at 3 a.m. She was affectionately known to many as Joy.

“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of Mrs. Joyce Wanjiru Karumba,” the statement read, adding that she was “called home to be with the Lord” in the early hours of the morning.

According to the statement, Joyce had demonstrated immense courage and faith during a prolonged health journey.

She underwent a kidney transplant in mid-2025 and later faced additional medical complications.

While an infection toward the end of the year was managed, the family said further health challenges emerged in recent weeks.

“She was briefly home two weeks ago before being re-admitted for care,” the statement said.

While announcing her death, the family said they were united in grief but comforted by their faith.

“While we are deeply saddened by this profound loss, we find comfort knowing she is now at perfect peace,” the family said, requesting prayers, love and respect for their privacy as they make arrangements for her final journey.

The family expressed gratitude for the support received and appealed to the public and the media to honour their need for privacy during the mourning period.

They said further details regarding funeral arrangements would be shared in due course.

“We encourage all to hold the Karumba family in prayer,” the statement said.
